JAMBOREE RULES

  1. Quartets must be comprised of four male or four female singers or mixed quartets and may be home schooled or enrolled in a public or private school, church, organization, or performing group, but need not be enrolled in the same institution.

  2. Small ensembles/Very Large Quartets may be comprised of five or more singers of any mix male and female and may be home schooled or enrolled in a public or private school, church, organization, or performing group, but need not be enrolled in the same institution.

  3. Although the majority of participants will be of high school age, the Jamboree is open to junior high school students, recent graduates, and college students.  Ages range from talented 7th and 8th graders through college seniors. Any student who is able to sing their part is welcome to participate.

  4. Quartets and Small ensembles/VLQs will use a pitch pipe to establish tonality at the beginning of each song, and no other musical instruments or accompaniment are allowed.

  5. Barbershop quartets and Small ensembles/VLQs must be organized in the traditional four-part close harmony barbershop voicing (Tenor, Lead, Baritone, Bass).  If you opt to use one of your own close harmony a cappella arrangements, all voices must sing i.e. no rap.

  6. Two songs will be performed. Songs will be selected from the Jamboree song selection list and will be arranged in the barbershop style. As an option, those who wish they may sing one of their own a cappella close harmony selections.

  7. Singers may be members of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA), Sweet Adeline’s International (SAI) or Harmony Incorporated. However, quartets are not required to  be registered with any of those entities.

  8. All quartets, Small ensembles/VLQs, parents and their supervisors must read the rules and fill out and return the registration, and the consent and permission forms by the stated deadline date.

  9. There is a $10 per participant registration fee. Financial aid is available. Financial concerns should not stop anyone from attending.  Contact the Jamboree Co-Chairmen for information.
