WINNIPESAUKEE HARMONY ON THE LAKE MUSIC FESTIVAL

MORE INFORMATION

Attention All Barbershop Choruses and Quartets!

Although some of the information below duplicates the information in the Introduction, it is organized differently.  The intended audience for the Introduction page is the general public.  The intended audience for the More Information page is the experienced barbershop harmony singer planning to participate in the festival.

The Winnipesaukee Harmony on the Lake Music Festival will take place in August 2008.  The following paragraphs provide an overview of the festival.  Click the links to other pages in this website for additional information, and quartet registration and ticket purchase forms.

When:  August 15-16, 2008 – Rain or Shine

Who: Hosted by the Alton Centennial Rotary Club & the Nashua, NH Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society a.k.a. The Granite Statesmen for the enjoyment of barbershop harmony enthusiasts from New England and beyond.

What:  A weekend celebration of barbershop harmony on the shores of scenic Lake Winnipesaukee (NH) which includes:

  • Plenty of time for woodshedding, tag singing, and visiting with friends old and new on the shore of the lake all day on Friday and Saturday.  Event registration opens at noon on Friday.  See the schedule of events for more details.
  • Golfers have an opportunity on Friday afternoon to enjoy an 18-hole tournament at the beautiful Kingswood Golf Club in Wolfeboro, NH.  This is a semi-private, Don Ross designed course.  The tournament is followed by a banquet and awards ceremony featuring barbershop quartet entertainment.
  • On Friday night, we will present the 50's Themed Doo-Wop show which will have barbershop quartets and choruses singing a variety of popular 50's era songs in a light-hearted a cappella style.  The show starts at the Prospect Mountain High School at 8:00 PM.   The show will be followed by an outdoor afterglow and the 4th Annual Ron Dubray Memorial Two Tags and a Joke Contest.  This BYOB event will be held at River Run from 10:30 PM to 1:00 AM.
  • Saturday includes a massive gathering of barbershop singers on the shore of the lake near the Community House at Alton Bay complete with concessions, including a spectacular Southern BBQ.  Activities at the town docks will include impromptu singing, barbershop quartet performances at the band stand, plus several other music related activities which are open to the public.  Swimming and other lake activities are also available.
  • The Winnipesaukee Belle cruises are unavailable for barbershop cruises this year.  The "Belle" is expected to return to the Music Festival in 2009.
  • The silent auction will be held at the Prospect Mountain High School in Alton in conjunction with an “all you can eat” Yankee Pot Roast Dinner provided by the Rotary Club from 4:30 – 6:15 PM.  You can get to the school and eat at your own schedule and not have to worry about rushing to find a restaurant with your friends, because they will already be there!
  • The spectacular Saturday evening show will be held at the Prospect Mountain High School in Alton, which features a beautiful 630-seat, air conditioned auditorium.  It will include barbershop choruses and quartets, both male and female. Curtain is 7:00 PM.
  • A cast party and afterglow will follow the show at River Run from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM (once again BYOB).  All ages are welcome to attend.

Where:  A variety of activities will take place in several locations in Alton and Alton Bay, NH, including the Town Docks, the Community House, the Prospect Mountain High School, and River Run.

Why:  The Alton Centennial Rotary Club is proud to continue this fun and highly visible event in their town.  Bringing back the 50-year tradition, formerly known as the Alton Bay Barbershop Jamboree, has brought them much joy.  The club uses the event to help create bonds with other local organizations and dedicates their portion of the proceeds from the event to fund scholarships.

The Granite Statesmen are glad to host a fun, fellowship opportunity for our friends in the Northeastern District that promotes participation in barbershop quartet singing.  The event includes singers, both male and female, from all three major barbershop singing organizations and provides an environment that encourages casual singing and offers several formal performance opportunities for organized quartets.  Proceeds earned from the event on behalf of the Nashua Chapter are dedicated to continuing its important mission to promote barbershop harmony and music education.

Tickets:

Registration is only $30.00 for the weekend which includes a ticket to both shows and admission to both afterglows (Fri and Sat Evenings).
