The Nashua Granite Statesmen, as a chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) fully supports the Society's push to bring singing back to the people of our country, with specific emphasis on youth singing. With that goal in mind, the Chapter makes significant contributions of both money and song to SPEBSQSA's Harmony Foundation. On the local level, the Granite Statesmen perform each year on a show that features all of the barbershop choruses in New Hampshire, along with top notch local quartets, and choruses made up of local high school students, with separate choruses for boys and girls. These choruses draw representatives from all over the state. The selected students are sent sheet music and audio tapes prior to the day of the performance. They then gather at the performance site early in the morning on the day of the performance and spend the day preparing for the show under the tutelage of representatives from SPEBSQSA, Sweet Adelines International and Harmony, Inc.
After a day of fellowship and song in preparation for the evening's
show, the students take the stage to sing their hearts out in the
Barbershop Style for an assembly of family, friends, and local
barbershoppers. |
